Help My Pet Home Free Tag Service

Help My Pet Home is a free service that helps reunite you with your pug if he or she is ever lost.  Here is how the service works:

  • You complete the online registration for all of your pets
  • You will receive a Help My Pet Home tag for your pet to wear
  • If you pet is ever lost, call the Help My Pet Home hotline to report them missing
  • If someone finds your missing pet, the Help My Pet Home tag instructs them to the hotline.  The number on your pet’s tag will allow Help My Pet to locate your contact info and they will immediately contact you.

The service works along the same lines of microchipping by storing owner information in a database, however, your pug wears a tag instead of having a chip implanted.  In any case, the registration is free, the tags are free and there is not charge for replacement tags.  With a free price tag there is not reason not to take one more step to ensure the safe return of your pug if they are ever lost.  The more ways to be reunited with your pup the better.

The truth about poinsettias

This holiday season, you may hear plenty of conflicting advice about poinsettias and whether or not they are poisonous to pets.  Dana B. Farbman, CVT of the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center recently weighed in on the subject and had this to offer, “In reality, ingestions typically produce only mild to moderate gastrointestinal tract irritation in pets, which may include drooling, vomiting and diarrhea.”

It is still a good idea to your pug from nibbling any poinsettia leaves to spare them the upset stomach, but it is good to know that this festive holiday decoration is not poisonous to pets.  Instead the ASPCA, cautions us to be wary of holly and mistletoe.  Both plants are potentially toxic if ingested by pets.

The Dangers of Bread Dough

The holidays may inspire you to get in the kitchen and bake up some tasty treats.  If you do keep a close eye out and make sure that your pooch does not ingest any bread dough.  The ASPCA has recently spoke of the dangers of dogs ingesting bread dough.  It seems that the heat of a dog or cat’s stomach causes the bread to rise.  As the dough rises it fills the dog’s stomach and produces alcohol.  If untreated, this can be a potentially fatal situation.  So during the holiday bustle in the kitchen, be sure to keep a close eye on your furry friend and make sure they do not eat any potentially dangerous foods.

Mizrahi, Celebrity Jeopardy and the ASPCA

Isaac Mizrahi will appear on Celebrity Jeopardy on Wednesday, November 14th.  Mizrahi has chosen the ASPCA as his charity and that means the ASPCA will be receiving at least $25,000.  If Mizrahi wins the evening’s competition the ASPCA will receive $50,000.  So check out Celebrity Jeopardy and see how Isaac and the ASPCA fare.

PugFest Raises Over $23,600

SEPRA PugFest, held the last weekend in October, raised over $23,600 for the pug rescue group.  That astonishing amount is $6,000 more than the group raised in 2005 at its annual PugFest.  The PugFest event was attended by approximately 1,400 people and 700 pugs!  We were fortunate enough to attend the event this year and seeing so many pugs in one place is completely indescribable.  So, we took plenty of pictures to share with everyone.

While the event was a huge success, the money raised will not completely cover the SEPRA veterinarian costs.  To date the organization has already spent over $57,000 in getting needy pugs proper medical attention.

You can find out more about SEPRA and the pugs the group helps by visiting their website.
