Life with Benny involves a lot of bone holding. We spoiled him when he was a pup and would hold his bone for him while he chewed so needless to say we have raised a pug that couldn’t hold his own bone if his life depended on it. You reap what you sow, I guess.
In any case, Benny loves to chew so we do a lot of bone holding for him and when we are unable to hold his bone we must come up with a creative way to simulate us holding the bone. Like wedging it between sofa cushions. But, while Benny loves to chew he certainly isn’t a very effective chewer. This goes back to my do the things you love even if you are not the best at them thing that I learned from Henry.
When Benny chews a rawhide bone all he does is soften it up with his slobber. He will work for hours on end, but never really gets anything. When Henry chews we have to keep a very close eye on him to keep him from eating too much at one time. Even Luna, who has the smallest mouth I have ever seen on a pug, can chew circles around Ben.
But it is all moot because there is really nothing Benny likes to do more than go to town chewing a bone while you graciously hold it for him. And this, my friends, is what that is like.
Benjamin, Henry & Luna each got baths on Sunday. They were quite smelly so not only did we bathe them but we washed pretty much everything they come in contact with, which meant the house smelled really good on Sunday.
After his bath, Benny always gets fired up and runs around like a wild man. Here is a little video of him running around the living room. At around 16 seconds you will seem him stop and smell under the laundry room door. There is blueberry bread behind that door!
While Benny, Henry & Luna eat food that we make for them, I give them a tiny bit of Wellness kibble here and there so that if something like a hurricane would happen we could switch to kibble and the pugs would be no worse for the wear. When I scoop out the dry food Benny always makes me laugh so I thought I would record it to share a little bit of his food excitement with you.
On a side note, I have been loving the Flip video camera. It makes creating little videos so easy and it could not possibly be easier to use.
When Benny sits he likes to lean on things. He’ll prop himself up against a wall, the arm of the sofa, the cabinets, a pillow, you name it. He has even started using Henry as a back rest!
To Benjamin this is heaven - laying in the yard, taking in the smells, listening to the birds chirp and having a brother to lean against.
Now that they are six (almost six in Henry’s case. Today is Henry’s last day as a 5 year old) their late night bone chewing marathons really take a toll on them in the morning. They sure aren’t teenagers anymore!
One of the things that I love the most about Baby Benny is his cowlicks. He has a cowlick on each one of his shoulders.
They line up almost exactly and I am always tempted at Halloween to buy one of those gag arrow through the head costumes for Benny with the arrow of course lining up with his cowlicks. That way, I could say that Benny was shot by Cupid’s arrow. Cupid being our cat, of course.
