Sweet 16?

Luna

As you may remember, Luna was at the vet for surgery to remove some cancer spots on her arm and ear. Well, the ear flap had growths both on the inside and outside. Once the growths were removed, Luna was left with quite a sizable scab. As the scab began to fall off, we noticed that we could begin to see light through her ear. We became suspicious that when the whole scab fell off that she would have a "pierced" ear.

Well, one morning, Luna woke up and did her morning stretch which included a head shake and wouldn’t you know, that ear scab flew across the room! We’re all lucky everyone else was on the other side of the room from the crusty projectile because if struck by that thing it could have put an eye out!

When the dust settled, we noticed that indeed, Luna had a pierced ear. It is only about the size of shoelace hole. It’s not huge but definitely noticeable (especially when you can see daylight coming right through it). Luna is no worse for the wear. She is probably more used to having scars than we are, actually. I guess that is why we are taking it a little harder than she is. We have tried to keep her as "perfect" as she could be which would include not contributing to the many scars all over her body.

The "perfect" though is that she is cancer free. And the reality is that it doesn’t take away any of her spunk, feistiness, beauty, spirit or sweet nature. She is perfect just the way she is. As we just prefer to tell our friends & family, we are simply liberal minded parents and opted to allow her to get her ear pierced before turning sweet 16! Some people allow their baby girls to get their ears pierced at a younger age these days, right? We are amongst the "in crowd". She won’t be wearing any dangling earrings though. She is still too young for that.grin

Stuck in the Middle

Luna and Henry

Little Looney, stuck in between her bros. Sometimes, Benny & Henry don't leave Luna much room, but I think she would rather squeeze herself in rather than find somewhere else to sleep.

Comfy

Luna

I know we adopted Luna a long time ago, 5 years ago to be exact, but even after all those years, I still reflect on how far the little girl has come.

One of the most heartbreaking things for me when we first adopted her is that she would never get comfortable and rest. The first night in her new home, she literally tried to sleep standing up. Of course, over time, she started to trust us and her surroundings more and she became more relaxed. But, I like to contrast the little pug on day one that would try to sleep standing up to the pug today that is all about making herself comfortable. Luna is a lap dog and when she sits on your lap, she almost shapes you into the form that is most comfortable to her. Not to mention that she is the biggest bed hog around.

She has come a long way and many times when I see her passed out in one of her cozy beds or her little 16 pound body taking up practically the whole sofa, I can't help but think back to that first night and smile at how much Luna has changed over the years.

Problem Sleepers

Henry and Luna

The pugs are allowed to sleep with us at night, which is generally fine, but two of the pugs are serious bed hogs. We try to encourage the pugs to sleep in the same direction that we do (parallel to us), but Henry & Luna prefer to sleep perpendicular to us.

When we go to bed, things start out OK, but as the night goes on Henry & Luna switch into perpendicular sleeping mode and the next thing you know we are hanging off the side of the bed and the pugs have all sorts of open space in the middle of the bed.

You can switch the pugs back into parallel mode, but after a few hours they are right back into perpendicular sleeping mode and we are clinging to the bed again.

How a little pug can push you out of the bed is beyond me but they manage to do it every night.

Happy Gotcha Day, Luna!

Luna

It is hard to believe, but 5 years ago tomorrow, we drove down to Hollywood, FL and adopted Luna from Compassionate Pug Rescue.

I have loved every minute of the little girl being here. And to think that we were worried that she might not get along with the boys grin

Over the 5 years she has been with us there have been lots of great Luna moments, so I thought I would share some of my favorites from her first year with us. Also, you can check out some of Luna's pictures on Flickr.

Happy Gotcha Day Looney Tune!
