The Pug Most Popular in Portland

The AKC recently released their annual breed registration statistics and while the Pug came in 14th overall in 2007, the pug breed was the fourth most registered dog in Portland, Oregon.  That ranking is higher than any other of the 50 U.S cities that the AKC provided rankings for.  So, a big woof to all those pugs out there in Portland!  If you are interested, you can find out the most popular dog breeds in your city.

Pug Rescue of North Carolina Needs your help

I found this via My Pugs Blog today:

Folks, we need your help. Our rescue box truck rolled into our Greensboro, NC headquarters tonight with 33 adult dogs from a confiscation in Wilson, North Carolina. We do not have a total headcount on all the PUPPIES yet, but we have them, and we have pregnant females.

Twenty of the dogs we picked up were pugs to add to the four he relinquished to us yesterday, one pug girl is in labor tonight. There are several more in various stages of pregnancy and some just bred and not showing yet. Pugs will be multiplying VERY fast here.

In addition, we have 5 or 6 mini schnauzers, one mom is nursing 5 tiny babies. We do not know yet how many more of them are pregnant.

We have 1 wunderwhat. He/she is either a Westie or a Wheaten. We’re not sure which yet.

We have 3 min pins…one pregnant and showing

We have a pregnant chi/min pin mix who will not come out of her crate and is possibly in whelp.

We have asked these other breed rescues to come help us take all but the pugs. We need help with the pugs as well. Anything you can do to help us will be deeply
appreciated.

Pugs pulled from burning house

Two pugs were rescued by firefighters when their 100 year home caught fire in Albemarle County in Virginia.  The house fire was intense and required firefighters from 5 different departments to get the blaze under control.  The owners of the home were not at home when the fire started and firefighters are still not sure what started the fire.  For now the pugs are being cared for by the firefighters that rescued them.  If the owners do not come forward in the next few days, they will be turned over to the SPCA.

Help find Oscar - a stolen pug that needs his medicine

Help find OscarOscar is a 6-year-old pug that was stolen from his home in Broward County, FL last week during a robbery.  It is devasting enough to have Oscar taken from his family, but the 6-year-old pug also requires medication twice a day to treat a collapsed lung.

Below is a local news story about Oscar that gives more details.  If you can provide any information about Oscar please call the Broward Crime-Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.

BROWARD COUNTY (WSVN)—A Broward family is offering a $500 reward for the return of their sick dog after it was stolen from their home during a burglary.

The Kirschenbaum family says burglars broke into their home Wednesday and not only stole jewelry but also their 6-year-old pug, Oscar.  Alan Kirschenbaum said his daughter, Audrey, hasn’t been able to sleep since the night of the burglary.

“Last night she was up all night long…” said Kirschenbaum of his daughter.  Audrey was the one who discovered Oscar missing.

Oscar has a collapsed lung and needs medication for it twice a day.  The Kirschenbaum’s say if their dog doesn’t recieve this medicine, he could have trouble breathing and even die.

“Jewelry is replaceable, this pet just has such fond memories for us, and you can’t replace that,” said Kirschenbaum.

“I don’t care about my things, I care about my dogs, my kids and my family,” said Lisa Kirschenbaum.

Oscar’s groomer is offering her business, Classy Pets on Wiles Road in Coral Springs, as a safe place to bring the pug so he can be returned to his owners.

Coral Springs Police alerted their humane unit to keep an eye out for the dog.  Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime-Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS

A video of an incredible adopted dog that alerts a little girl’s grandparents after she has fallen off a horse and severely injured herself.  Lassie couldn’t have done it better herself!
