Tic Tac Toe
Three little bed hogs all in a row!

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of the day we said goodbye to Solsey. In the days that have passed since she left us, I don't think one day has gone by without someone sharing a funny Solsey story or some related anecdote. To say that she left an impression on us would be an understatement.
The hardest part about this milestone for me is that I know that in just a short 3 months, that Solsey will have been gone for as long as we had her. It was a worry of mine early on that I would forget the little things that made Sol Sol. I worry a little less about that now, because it has been a year and I know that even though she only spent a short time with us, she certainly left a lasting impact.
In the picture, with Sol's urn, is her paw print set in plaster of paris. The vet tech made it for us and when we picked up Sol's ashes they gave it to us. Words cannot express how grateful I am for that little paw print. It was such a surprise, and such a unique gift. I felt bad asking if it was really Solsey paw print. I just couldn't believe that someone would think of something so special. Of course, they assured me it was indeed her own paw print and I am so very thankful to them for being so thoughtful on that blur of a day.
To celebrate Solsey's life, I would like to share a few of our favorite Sol moments. The list would not be complete without one infamous spaghetti post. Spaghetti reminds me so much of Solsey, that we have not had it since she passed. I can't even consider making it without having the whirling dervish around.
In addition to celebrating Sol with our favorite moments, don't forget about the Sol Sunshine Memorial Fund. In the year since she passed $2,244 has been raised to support the hospice pugs at Central Florida Pug Rescue. Like Solsey, those pugs are making the most of their golden years. Any donation, big or small, honors the memory of Sol and supports the senior pugs at CFPR.

I just wanted to let everyone know that today's blog post is going to be late. I should have something posted by this evening.

I think it is safe to say that the peak pug weather season is upon us in Florida. The skies have been blue and the temperature is perfect for the pugs. They can go on long walks without getting too hot, bask in the sun for hours and lounge around in the backyard. Trips to the beach are also possible in this weather. By the time summer rolls around, it is too hot for the pugs at the beach.
The picture above was taken during pug weather season in 2006. Like previous years, we will be doing as many outdoor activities as possible during this short window of perfect pug weather. Because, just around the corner is summer. And Florida summers and pugs just don't mix well.

I know we adopted Luna a long time ago, 5 years ago to be exact, but even after all those years, I still reflect on how far the little girl has come.
One of the most heartbreaking things for me when we first adopted her is that she would never get comfortable and rest. The first night in her new home, she literally tried to sleep standing up. Of course, over time, she started to trust us and her surroundings more and she became more relaxed. But, I like to contrast the little pug on day one that would try to sleep standing up to the pug today that is all about making herself comfortable. Luna is a lap dog and when she sits on your lap, she almost shapes you into the form that is most comfortable to her. Not to mention that she is the biggest bed hog around.
She has come a long way and many times when I see her passed out in one of her cozy beds or her little 16 pound body taking up practically the whole sofa, I can't help but think back to that first night and smile at how much Luna has changed over the years.

A few eagle eyed blog readers spotted Henry lurking in the background of Monday's Temptation blog post. The pugs are very much aware that if one of them gets a treat they all get a treat, so they have been known to take turns buttering us up for goodies because if one of them wins they all win.
This couldn't be more true of drive-thrus. On the rare occasions when we pick up something quick from the drive-thru and we have the pugs with us, Benjamin & Henry totally turn on the charm for the drive-thru workers to score treats.
Luna does not like to be anywhere near an open window in a car, so she patiently waits for one of her brothers to earn her a treat. To help increase the pugs' odds of getting a special treat, we let one of them up to the front of the car while we go through the drive-thru so they can get a good look at what is going on.
Since Luna has no interest, the boys have traditionally taken turns. Using their handsome good looks they have scored cookies, McNuggets, french fries and lots of other goodies.
The boys used to be happy taking turns, that is until Henry had his turn up front and did not score any treats from the drive-thru for the pugs. Henry had the bad luck of getting a non dog person on his turn and Benny has never let him forget it.
And from that day forward, Benny insists that he be the one up front, putting his cute wrinkles to good use. And those wrinkles of his have never let him down.
I know Henry wants nothing more than a chance to redeem himself, but Benny is just not having it. I think I caught him muttering under his breath something about "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!"
